No plastic packaging
If, like many, you are trying to improve the sustainability of your business or organisation, switching to plastic-free packaging can make a significant impact.
Plastic-free packaging uses alternative materials such as cardboard or paper to package your products. It is also easier to recycle, better for consumers and minimises environmental impact. If designed correctly, plastic-free packaging can provide performance, protection, and visual appeal equivalent to single-use plastic packaging.
At GWP Group, we offer a wide range of plastic-free packaging products. You can source everything from postal and eCommerce boxes to heavy-duty industrial transit packaging from us. We can also replace foams and plastic inserts and even manufacture specialist products such as spools with paper-based alternatives.

Biodegradable packaging FAQs
What is plastic packaging?
Plastic manufacturers use polymerised crude oil to create various plastic materials. As such, plastic packaging has several sustainability issues, not least increasing the demand for finite resources (fossil fuels) and the environmental impact of oil extraction and refining. Plastics also take thousands of years to degrade. Plastic-free packaging contains no material of this nature.
Why should my business use plastic-free packaging?
Plastic packaging is one of the main contributors to pollution, particularly in marine environments. Many businesses use plastic packaging for a single use or “trip”, making it unsustainable. Any company that wants to minimise environmental impact and retain increasingly demanding consumers should consider switching from plastic packaging.
Is plastic-free packaging good for my customers?
Businesses and brands increasingly find that their customers are demanding plastic-free packaging. A desire for improved sustainability drives this behaviour, alongside considerations around ease of disposal. Many millennials and Gen Z consumers only purchase products with sustainable or plastic-free packaging.
When shouldn't I use plastic-free packaging?
There are several applications where using plastic-free packaging has a detrimental effect. For example, plastic packaging can significantly extend the shelf life of specific foods, medicines and pharmaceutical products.
Is reusable plastic packaging sustainable?
In specific scenarios, reusable plastic packaging can be more sustainable than plastic-free packaging. This is particularly common when businesses use plastic containers as part of a closed-loop supply chain. Reusing containers can minimise overall resource and energy use and the costs and impact of recovery and recycling.
What is the plastic packaging tax?
The UK government introduced the Plastic Packaging tax (PPT) in April 2022. All non-recycled plastic packaging materials are subject to a £200 charge per tonne of packaging/material used. The aim is to reduce the use of single-use plastic packaging and drive investment in recycling infrastructure.
Plastic-free packaging company
At GWP, we place a significant emphasis on supplying the most sustainable and eco-friendly packaging for your business.
Whilst this frequently means engineering corrugated cardboard packaging to replace foams, films or other single-use plastics, it is also essential to consider the bigger picture.
If reusable and part of a robust supply chain, plastic packaging can be more sustainable. Surprising as this may sound, reusable packaging can minimise emissions, energy used for recovery and recycling, and reduce environmental impact over the longer term.
Crucially, working with our team of experts allows us to provide a genuinely unbiased assessment of your requirements and offer an appropriate solution. Options can include plastic-free packaging, reusables, biodegradable packs, and a wide range of other eco-friendly packaging. By providing the whole gamut of options, you can be confident you get the most appropriate packaging for your application.
More than just another packaging supplier
Nearly all of the packaging we supply is bespoke to your exact requirements. This approach has further benefits, such as minimising material usage, CO2 emissions from transport, and damage to items in transit.
