Selecting a suitable plastic carrying case for your business
As the classification of “carry case” is fairly broad, it can mean different things to different businesses, industry sectors or even groups of consumers.
And whilst the large range of plastic carry case brands, soft carry cases and hard plastic carry cases – not to mention the customisation options such as foam inserts – means they are suitable for a wide range of uses, there are certain applications to which they are particularly suited.
Carry cases for sales reps and sample presentation
One of the most common uses for carrying cases if for use as sales rep sample cases. Often referred to as sales demo cases or even presentation cases, this type of case is used to present new product samples to potential customers in meetings and sales pitches.
The lightweight plastic carrying case options are particularly suited for this as they allow for easy handling, whilst providing a good balance between protection and cost (they are usually fairly cost effective as they do not need to provide high levels of protection if used for this purpose).
The inherent design of these types of plastic cases also means that the customisation options lend themselves to use in this way too.
For example, custom foam inserts can be used to further enhance presentation of your sales team’s samples, including bold striking colours and even laser etched branding. It is also possible to add exterior printing (usually screen or digital) to ensure enhanced aesthetic appearance and maximising branding potential.
Equipment case options
At the other end of the scale, some carry cases need to provide high levels of protection.
For service engineers or technicians that frequently take tools and equipment out onto site, it is imperative that this (often expensive) equipment does not become damaged.
As a result, many hard plastic carrying cases are used as waterproof equipment cases. This includes the range of options from case manufacturers including Explorer, Nanuk and of course the well-known Peli™ brands.
However, there are a number of cases that bridge the gap between the lightweight plastic cases and the more durable equipment cases, such as the WAG Heavy range.
Regardless of which equipment carrying case you choose – and GWP are happy to help with this selection process – these particularly benefit from the inclusion of engineered foam inserts. Including case inserts can vastly improve protection for the contents from shock, impact and mishandling, with the exterior hard shell of the case also protecting from water and dust ingress.
Retail product and added value carry cases
One final – and often overlooked – type of carrying case is the soft-shell option.
Soft carry cases, such as the Shell case range, will generally be used for sample presentation meetings (as per the plastic carry cases detailed above) but also for adding value to retail products too.
This is where a consumer product (or even B2B equipment where the item is going to a specific end user) will be supplied in a soft carry case that can then be used to store and transport the item as required.
This makes soft carrying cases particularly popular for consumer electronics (such as cameras for example) or for medical devices which are not likely to be used outside of a specific workplace.
As with all the carry cases detailed here, GWP are also able to provide these with bespoke foam inserts alongside other customisation options.
Carry Case FAQs
Common questions regarding carry cases
As plastic carry cases are used for a wide range of applications, there are typically a wide range of questions to ask before selecting one suitable for your business.
The below section covers the most frequently asked of these, but if you cannot find the information you require please contact a member of the GWP team (you can reach us on 01722 416 440 or email firstname.lastname@example.org).
What can I use carry cases for?
Carry cases can be used for a wide range of uses and applications. This includes everything from use as salesman sample cases, through to medical equipment storage and even for use as heavy-duty equipment cases. The type of carry case you select should therefore be influenced by its intended use.
What are carry cases typically made from?
The vast majority of carry cases supplied by GWP are manufactured from plastic. But even with the range of plastic carry cases available, there are options for low cost, lightweight carry cases all the way through to extra tough waterproof variants. There are also soft shell and fabric options for more specialist requirements.
I need a heavy-duty case – are these carry cases suitable?
The range of IP rated, waterproof cases are a great choice for protecting expensive, specialist, delicate or highly calibrated equipment. Combined with custom foam inserts, these hard plastic carry cases provide the highest levels of protection and can completely eliminate the potential for accidental damage to your items.
Can I source a carry case with foam inserts?
All of the carry cases currently available can be enhanced with bespoke foam inserts. Tailored to your specific tools, products, samples or equipment, the foam can be used for enhanced protection – effectively absorbing shock – or improved appearance (or both). Foam inserts can also help with quicker identification of parts or highlighting any products or equipment missing from the case (through the use of shadow foam).
Can I print onto my carry cases?
Depending on the type of carry case selected, it is usually possible to print or add branding to them. The plastic cases from the likes of Hofbauer, WAG, Maxado and Rose Plastic will usually feature smooth surfaces (perfect for adding print or labels directly), whilst some can even have detailed designs moulded into the case during manufacture (in-mould labelling).
Can I have a fully custom carry case?
If none of the “off the shelf” carry case options are exactly what you are looking for, then GWP can manufacture completely bespoke cases for your business. This includes the N Case and Smart Case ranges, which in effect are small scale flight cases. They offer bespoke sizes, a wide range of options in terms of fittings (catches, handles, locks, panel material etc.) besides the standard print and foam lining.
