About OSB cases

OSB cases, manufactured using oriented strand board and timber battens, are cost-effective if you need to ship or export heavy, bulky or large industrial parts or products.

All timber material used in manufacturing your OSB cases is ISPM 15 treated to ensure its suitability for export. But besides this, OSB cases can be easily stacked and produced in bespoke sizes to maximise the efficiency of your transport. This size efficiency also helps reduce your CO2 emissions.

Besides these benefits, custom OSB cases ensure improved product protection by preventing movement during transit. Performance can be enhanced further using custom pallet collars to brace your products and various inserts, including foam, heavy-duty corrugated and even Correx® plastic. In fact, you can effectively choose to turn your OSB cases into a truly composite packaging solution.

Other notable features and benefits of OSB cases include adding pallets to larger sizes, optional painting to add colour and improved water resistance, and stencilling important information to exterior surfaces.

Key benefits of OSB cases

The key benefits of OSB cases include:

  • Low-cost shipping option.
  • Cases are easy and safe to stack during transit/storage.
  • Battens add good levels of strength and protection for contents during shipping.
  • Custom sizes allow you to maximise shipping and storage space.
  • Can be painted (sprayed) and stencilled to add info as required.
  • Can include integral pallets for easier handling.
  • Various insert options include foam end caps, lining, divider sets, and layer pads.
  • All wood is ISPM 15 treated for export and purchased from sustainable sources.

Wood

OSB cases use wood in their manufacture.

What is OSB?

OSB stands for oriented strand board. Similar to chipboard but stronger and more durable, OSB uses compressed layers of wood strands combined with adhesives. It is available in 5 different grades and various thicknesses. OSB is suitable for multiple applications, including OSB cases for use as industrial packaging.

Is plywood or OSB better for crates?

OSB and plywood are similar in performance, although plywood is approximately 10 per cent stiffer. This additional stiffness means screws and nails are more likely to stay in place, giving plywood cases greater longevity than OSB equivalents. OSB cases tend to be marginally lower cost, however.

Are OSB cases waterproof?

Whilst the adhesives and resins used in the manufacture of OSB provide it with some water resistance, it can still be prone to swelling and “telegraphing”. However, it is possible to paint or coat OSB cases to provide improved performance.

Can OSB cases be stacked?

The typical construction of OSB cases, using battens in a similar manner to plywood cases, allows for excellent strength and stacking ability.

Can OSB cases include a pallet?

OSB cases can include an integral pallet if required. For bigger OSB cases, this makes manoeuvrability and handling considerably easier.
