Description
More information on attached lid containers
Attached lid storage containers are – in essence – plastic boxes with an attached lid that you can use for in-plant and lineside handling (i.e. moving parts or components to assembly lines).
Similar to Euro Containers, the addition of lids allows ALC containers to offer enhanced protection for their contents during transit and handling (particularly from water, dust, and other particles and debris).
Besides this, however, these heavy-duty attached lid containers also offer all of the benefits associated with Euro boxes.
These advantages include excellent strength and durability (further helping to protect parts), exceptional longevity to reduce your overall “lifetime” costs, and ease of handling thanks to integrated hand holes.
You can also stack attached lid containers with the lids on or off to maximise available storage space. ALCs are available in standard sizes that fit the “euro” footprint (i.e. are compatible with most standard pallets, racking, automated handling systems etc.). These properties mean they help to minimise both storage and transport costs at your business.
As a result, attached lid plastic containers are suitable for a vast range of manufacturing and engineering industries, including automotive, electronics, aerospace, and many others.
Custom attached lid containers
Despite these benefits, it is possible to improve the attached lid containers your business uses further. You can use custom inserts, dividers, layer pads and even foam to do this.
For example, internal divider sets manufactured from Correx® can help segment products and prevent damage caused by the items colliding.
Taking this a step further, using Bubble-board can also protect the surfaces of any components stored within the industrial plastic boxes.
Preventing surface scratches and marks on polished or painted components can vastly reduce costs by minimising rejections.
For exceptionally fragile items, you can also use foam inserts to provide cushioning protection. Similarly to divider sets, foam dunnage can also aid stock identification and highlight shortages of particular parts.
You can also add print and labelling to the outer surfaces of your ALC boxes. Printing allows you to add company logos, branding, and more practical information, such as handling instructions, batch numbers, or even safety warnings.

FAQs
Common questions regarding ALC totes
Don’t know your ALC from your ESD? What a croc box is? Or even if these totes are a good fit for your business? This section provides the answers to these (and more) questions.
What does ALC stand for?
ALC is an acronym for attached lid containers. These are similar to Euro containers but include a hinged or interlocking lid to protect their contents.
Why are some containers called “croc boxes” or alligator containers?
The terms croc boxes and alligator containers come from the format that most common lids take. The interlocking “teeth” of these lids look like the teeth of a crocodile snapping shut, creating a secure seal to protect the contents.
What lid options are available?
There are two main lid options for attached lid containers. These are simple hinged lids that open from one side of the container or interlocking hinged lids. The latter allows for much easier opening of the lid and access to the container’s contents, with the interlocking teeth also being behind the “croc box” term.
Are there anti-static attached lid containers available?
A range of moulded, ESD-safe euro boxes and containers can have lids attached. The SSI Schaefer EF Series are the most popular, providing exceptional protection from ESD (electrostatic discharge) to minimise static damage to electronics and other sensitive parts and products.
Can ALC boxes still have inserts added?
You can add a range of inserts to ALC boxes to further improve their usability and performance. Options include Correx® or Bubble board dividers sets, foam inserts, and custom vacuum-formed trays tailored to the shape and size of your components. These inserts aid in loading and unloading the tote boxes and help minimise handling damage.
Who manufactures attached lid containers?
Whilst there are many variants in the UK market, arguably the market leader is SSI Schaefer. The attached lid containers you can source from GWP are the SSI Euro Light and EF series, with the latter also being available in conductive versions.
