Description
Detailed Info on cardboard layer pads
Cardboard layer pads and slip sheets may look like one of the most simple (and unexciting) forms of cardboard packaging insert available. But, they can prove indispensable to a number of packaging applications.
Essentially custom sized sheets of cardboard, layer pads can have a number of purposes. Firstly, they can be used within corrugated packaging to separate layers of products (this makes them particularly suitable for use with divider sets).
This allows for more items to be safely packed within an outer container, but also helps improve the stability of the products (and therefore protection during transport). They can also offer further protection upon opening of the box, as they can prevent damage to the top layer of products from blades used to cut tapes etc.
Slip sheet applications / enhancements
Layer pads can also be used for products stacked on pallets too. Often referred to as slip sheets when used in applications of this type, they again are used to separate layers of products, stabilise the load, and can even be used to replace pallets (in certain circumstances).
This last point is particularly pertinent to any businesses that may need to comply with ISPM 15 regulations, which restricts the use of timber (and thus pallets / pallet boxes) for international trade.
There are a number of options for enhancing layer pads too. This includes print / branding, material strength and even adding specialist coatings such as water resistance, anti scuff surfaces or even anti static / conductive performance.
All layer pads supplied by GWP to your business will also be fully recyclable and biodegradable, minimising your packaging’s’ environmental impact.

Questions regarding layer pads

What is the difference between layer pads and slip sheets?
The terms layer pads and slip sheets are often used interchangeably. However, layer pads generally refer to sheets of corrugated cardboard used to separate layers of products within an outer container / box, whereas slip sheets tend to be used to stabilise pallet loads of products a(and can even replace pallets in certain scenarios)
What are layer pads manufactured from?
Layer pads are manufactured from corrugated cardboard material. Whilst usually utilising a single wall material, the specific grade and strength can be matched to the intended use / application. This ensures that the optimum performance will be achieved.
Can my layer pads be printed?
Layer pads and slip sheets can be printed. This can be for anything from simply adding branding and logos, to including instructions and even health and safety notices.
Are layer pads water-proof?
Whilst cardboard is inherently susceptible to water, it is possible to add water resistance through specialist coatings. This can make layer pads and slip sheet suitable for use in damp conditions, or if they are (temporarily) placed outside. Other specialist coatings include anti static, anti scuff and VCI (corrosion) inhibitors.
What are ISPM 15 regulations?
ISPM 15 regulations cover restrictions on using timber in international trade. This has an obvious impact on the use of pallets, particularly for exports. This can make slip sheets (or corrugated pallets) ideal for use in these types of applications.
