Tri-wall cartons
If you need packaging for export or other industrial applications, triple wall boxes are the strongest and most durable form of corrugated packaging.
Triple wall cardboard boxes utilise three layers of corrugated material to achieve performance levels comparable to wooden crates but with reduced bulk and weight. Suitable for loads of up to 100 kg, its inherent properties provide increased protection against perforation and impact. Tri-wall cartons can even help mitigate the adverse effects of changes in ambient temperature. They are also easily recyclable.
At GWP Packaging, we design and manufacture custom-sized triple wall cardboard boxes. This approach, compared with stock sizes, improves protection while simultaneously reducing transit and material costs. You can also source a range of inserts and pallets and add printed branding.

FAQs
What is a triple wall box?
A triple-wall box is effectively corrugated packaging manufactured from triple-walled cardboard. Triple-wall means the material has three layers of fluting sandwiched between 4 liners. This composition makes the material extremely strong, rigid, and perfect for heavy-duty industrial packaging.
Is tri-wall and triple-wall the same thing?
Whilst ‘tri-wall’ and ‘triple-wall’ terms are interchangeable, ‘tri-wall’ refers to the brand name and company that manufactures this material. Headquartered in Hong Kong, Tri-Wall is an international business with manufacturing sites and offices worldwide (including the UK).
Are triple-wall boxes much stronger than double-wall boxes?
Triple-wall cardboard boxes can be up to ten times stronger (in terms of compression strength) than many standard corrugated materials. However, in many cases, various grades of double-wall material are suitable for specific applications, with triple-wall being more of a replacement for timber crates. GWP engineers are happy to advise on the most appropriate material for your needs.
Are triple wall boxes environmentally friendly?
As triple-wall cardboard boxes have a lighter tare weight and are less bulky than timber crates, they are more efficient to ship. This lower weight and bulk not only reduce costs but also make them more environmentally friendly. Corrugated cardboard is also much easier to recycle than wood.
What is Tri-Mite?
Tri-Mite is a similar material to triple wall cardboard, with the main difference being that it allows for the machining of 45-degree joints. These joints enable hinged lids and contribute to a distinctive appearance.
