If you ship your products, parts or equipment internationally, then it is crucial that your export packaging is correctly specified.
Export packaging is the outer pack that protects your goods during transit. Widely used options include heavy-duty cardboard boxes, timber crates, pallet boxes and composite packaging (that uses a combination of materials). Good export packaging ensures your products arrive at their destination in optimum condition.
At GWP, we have over 30 years of experience designing and manufacturing successful export packaging for industry-specific requirements, including aerospace, medical, and industrial. We analyse your product and engineer a suitable solution from the full range of available materials. This approach ensures a tailored level of protection and that your packaging is genuinely cost-effective.

What are the functions of export packaging?
There are several functions that export packaging must provide. These include ease of packing, safe storage, and ensuring that contents are undamaged upon arrival at their destination. Increasingly, export packaging must also be sustainable and easy to recycle.
What materials does export packaging use?
Export packaging uses various materials. This includes timber crates and cases, heavy-duty corrugated cardboard, and specialist options such as GRP cases. Additional inserts, including foam fittings and VCI bags for metal products, are also commonplace.
What are the advantages of export packaging?
Well-designed export packaging protects your goods during transit. This includes protection against shock, impact, vibration, poor handling, and even dust and moisture ingress.
Are there specific guidelines for export packaging?
There are specific guidelines for export packaging, although these can differ depending on the mode of transport (such as ATA, ADR, IMO etc.). Additionally, most export packaging utilises pallets for ease of movement and storage, and these must be ISPM 15 heat-treated.
Can I use export packaging for shipping within the UK?
Export packaging is inherently durable, tough, and hardwearing to protect its contents through the supply chain. These properties also mean that heavy-duty packaging of this type is also suitable for shipping bulky, heavy or expensive items within the UK.
Expertise in export packaging requirements
At GWP, we understand the challenges of exporting heavy, bulky, fragile or expensive items. This is why, over our thirty-plus years, we have worked with a vast array of companies in the aerospace, medical, electronics and other industrial sectors to create successful export packaging.
Unlike most of our competitors, our approach is to comprehensively analyse your requirements and design a custom pack that provides the optimum level of protection and reduces your long-term costs and environmental impact.
A team of expert designers can create composite packaging that incorporates corrugated cardboard, timber, foam, Correx® and a huge range of other specialist materials. This range of options also means you can rely on genuinely impartial advice on the best option for your specific application – as we cover all alternatives, we won’t try to sell you export packaging from the narrow range most other businesses provide.
Besides this in-depth design service and ongoing support, we manufacture your export packaging in-house, allowing us complete control over the quality. We can also offer sampling and testing services, ensuring your export packaging is right the first time.
