FAQs
Do Corstat® transit packs protect against ESD damage?
Transit packs use Corstat® coating and a specific structural design to create a “Faraday cage” effect. These properties ensure that any atmospheric static charges are channelled around the exterior of the box, keeping your items safe within. In fact, the performance of Corstat® conductive coating – and the packaging and handling products manufactured from it – have been specified by practically every major electronics manufacturer since the early days of silicone technology.
Are transit packs suitable for safely transporting hard drives?
Although new forms of memory are constantly being developed, a traditional hard drive is essentially a magnetised storage medium. This, unfortunately, makes them susceptible to static damage. As such, Corstat® boxes, such as transit packs, are frequently recommended for transporting HDDs.
What size transit packs are available?
Corstat® transit packs are available in 22 standard sizes. The smallest of these is 178 x 127 x 38 mm, whilst the biggest is 700 x 500 x 85 mm (dimensions refer to internal sizes). Whilst this range of sizes covers most eventualities, you can also specify bespoke sizes if required.
Is it worth including foam within transit packs?
Adding ESD foam can further improve your Corstat® transit packs (though it increases the unit cost). Additional benefits include improved static protection and, crucially, enhanced cushioning. The latter, in particular, can help prevent damage caused by mishandling.
Are Corstat® transit packs reusable?
Corstat® transit packs are typically reusable over multiple trips. However, for applications or environments that require an even higher degree of durability, or for clean room applications, GWP can manufacture transit packs using Corriplast – a fluted plastic material. Whilst offering the same levels of static shielding as Corstat®, Corriplast transit packs also provide resistance to moisture, grease, and oil, and can be wiped clean, further enhancing their lifespan.
