New AXYZ Foam Router
GWP Protective enhance foam conversion facility
On Friday 19th April, GWP Protective took delivery of a new AXYZ multi-head router – significantly increasing production capacity and efficiency at our Salisbury production facility – and further enhancing GWP’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading foam converters.
The AXYZ 6014 router, a state of the art machine built by AXYZ international, is part of GWP’s commitment to continued investment in technology and the on-going desire to be “best in class”.
The router, which having been installed should be fully operational in just a few days time, offers a multi-carousel tool change system, extended height bridge and a 4m x 2m table.

Benefits of CNC Routing
The procurement of this new technology and equipment, constituting an overall investment of approximately £100k, will enable GWP Protective to manufacture larger and more complex forms and significantly increase its overall capacity of engineered foam products for the range of specialist protective cases we manufacture and supply.
John Lee, General Manager at GWP Protective, commented;
This is an important and strategic purchase of a modern and very versatile machine supported by the latest in software design that enables us to undertake both multi head routing and oscillating knife cutting.
He added;
Having this level of manufacturing flexibility will ultimately open up new markets for GWP as it allows us to produce more complex shapes, plus larger volumes of engineered foam inserts more competitively.
AXYZ CNC Routers for Foam Fabrication
With their head office based in Canada, but regional offices across the globe including in the UK, AXYZ International is well renowned within the industry for being a leading supplier of both CNC Routers and CNC Knife Cutting solutions to foam converters and other industries.

Besides the obvious benefits that the technology offers foam converters such as GWP Protective, a wide range of manufacturing applications will utilise AXYZ equipment, including digital print finishers, construction industries, plastic fabricators and even wood workers.
AXYZ have manufactured well over 9,000 CNC router systems and solutions, with their AXYZ range (comprising of the 4000, 5000, 6000, 8000 and 10000 Series machines) being widely regarded as the most versatile systems currently on the market.
By using extended tables, higher gantries, additional cutting tools and even allowing for custom table design – all of which is ideal for any foam converter – it is the perfect platform for providing a wide range of configurations for varying applications and industries.
Materials used in Foam Conversion
At GWP Protective, we use only the highest quality foams and materials when undertaking our foam conversion services. As a result, the majority of our foam inserts for cases are created from the high performance foams manufactured by Zotefoams® – and in particular Plastazote®.

These nitrogen expanded foams are available in a wide range of colours, densities and can offer different properties, including flame retardant and conductive / static dissipative grades.
They also display superb consistency, and when utilised in conjunction with that advanced cushioning curves software that GWP Protective utilise, can provide a precise level of protection for any delicate item.
Foam Converters for diverse market sectors
GWP Protective are able to serve a wide range of varying markets thanks to over 20 years of experience, and the purchase of the new AXYZ CNC router further strengthens our reputation as a leading foam converters.
Supplying industries including the defence, aerospace, automotive, medical, offshore and oil & gas, electronics and broadcast sectors, our precisely engineered foam inserts are protecting delicate, highly calibrated, expensive and critical components, tools and products throughout the world.
