Help Selecting Your SKB Case
Full product info on SKB iSeries cases
When considering using a waterproof case for your business or application, the choice can be overwhelming (being one of the most competitive segments of the case market).
Saying that, SKB, and in particular their iSeries case range, should definitely be an option you look at.
This detailed buying guide provides all of the information you could need to decide if these hard-shell equipment cases would be the best option for you.
What are SKB iSeries Cases?
Leading range of waterproof equipment cases
SKB started out manufacturing cases for musical instruments (their very first case was for a guitar). However, they quickly grew to become one of the best-known case manufacturers, supplying a huge range of options throughout the world (they still produce instrument cases to this day, alongside specialist audio visual, drone, sport and gun cases).
Whilst SKB are perhaps best known for this and their range of rotationally moulded cases (offering 3 different ranges / types), arguably their most popular case is the iSeries.
Manufactured using injection moulding, SKB iSeries cases utilise a unique, ultra-high strength polypropylene which is claimed to be 20 – 30% lighter than alternative waterproof cases, whilst also being 2.5 times stronger. This is in addition to being fully water and dust proof, effectively meaning your important kit and equipment has the highest levels of protection.
Another key selling point of SKB iSeries cases is the wide range of models available. With almost 60 different size options, it is one of the largest currently available (rivalling the other established case option, Peli Protector).
Coupled with a huge range of features to improve usability – and having undergone extensive testing – SKB cases really are a superb option for a huge range of applications.

SKB iSeries Features
Features to improve durability, usability, and lifespan
SKB cases in general are renowned for having a wide range of clever features. These have been designed to improve the performance of the case itself, as well as the efficiency of the end user too. The iSeries is no different.
The following diagram shows these key features, with further explanation provided below.
A
Gasket Seal: The iSeries cases feature a completely water and dust tight (and even submersible) gasket seal. This has been tested to MIL-STD 810G
B
Pressure Relief Valve: The Ambient pressure equalization valve (tested to MIL-STD 810G) equalises pressure between the inside and outside of the case. This not only protects the contents but also prevents what is known as “vacuum lock” (which makes the case very difficult to open).
C
Trigger Release Latch: The patented, trigger release latches on the iSeries cases are incredibly easy to use, whilst maintaining an incredibly secure and strong closure.
D
Cushion Grip Handle: The rubber over-moulded, cushion grip handle is incredibly comfortable to use, even with heavy equipment and / or over long distances. The handles also “snap down” to minimise the cases’ overall size when not in use.
E
Moulded in Hinge: The metal hinges of the SKB cases are moulded directly in to the polypropylene material used to manufacture the cases, providing a much more durable and long lasting (yet easy to use) solution.
F
Padlock Loops: The moulded padlock loops can accommodate locks with a shackle of up to 5/16”. This allows for your contents to be kept secure when you are not with the case (i.e. when in storage, aircraft hold etc.).
G
Ultra Tough Construction: The ultra-tough polypropylene material used in the construction of the iSeries range is claimed to be as much as 30 percent lighter than similar cases, whilst being 2 and half times stronger too!
H
Wheels: The roller blade style wheels are included as standard on larger cases, along with a telescopic handle, to allow them to be more easily moved

Applications
Example uses for SKB iSeries cases
Whilst there is a huge range of applications and uses for SKB iSeries (and hard shell / waterproof cases in general), there are certain scenarios and industries where the specific benefits of the SKB range lend themselves particularly well.
For a brief overview on these, please see below.
Sports
Whilst GWP Protective typically only supply the industrial SKB cases, there are a wide number that are manufactured to be used specifically with sports equipment. This includes fishing, archery, golf, scuba diving and even a wide range of gun and rifle cases.
Similarly, SKB also manufacture cases that are tailored to protecting musical instruments.
Audio Visual
Almost any SKB case is a great option for protecting expensive audio-visual equipment. This includes cameras, lighting, lenses, sound equipment and much more besides. Coupled with foam inserts, these cases will keep equipment safe, dry and protected from impact. The fact they can be locked is a real bonus too.
SKB also produce a number of cases with pre-cut foam / dividers for specific equipment (such as SLR cameras, drones etc.) which can be a good choice for one off and low volume orders.
Maintenance / Service Engineers
When considering just the SKB industrial cases category (which iSeries cases fall into), one of the most popular applications is for use by service and maintenance engineers.
Enhanced with bespoke foam inserts (and even bezel kits depending on the equipment) iSeries cases offer exceptional protection for important kit and equipment being taken out onto site.
This can help improve efficiency of your workforce (particularly is using shadow board foam too) and prevent costly damage and project delays too.
Military
Taking their lead from Peli Protector cases, SKB cases are widely used by military forces throughout the world. This includes not only their iSeries range, but also the rack mount and roto molded options too.
The high and consistent levels of protection for these cases make them ideal in scenarios where damaged equipment could spell disaster.
Offshore / Marine
As iSeries cases are fully waterproof (being IP67 rated) they are widely used in offshore and marine industries.
They are perfect for keeping important or sensitive items safe and dry, even if the cases are splashed or submerged. The pressure relief valve is also a bonus here.
iSeries cases will also keep water in – meaning they can be used to transport wet equipment without it leaking into dry vehicles or storage areas too.
