What Are Explorer Cases?
Tough, durable equipment cases
Manufactured in Italy, Explorer cases are Europe’s answer to the ubiquitous Peli™ cases.
As such, they are a high performance, moulded plastic equipment case that offers exceptionally high levels of protection and a wealth of features. This includes being completely water tight.
The range comprises of more than 30 sizes, which are available in 4 standard colours. The range includes specialist gun / rifle cases, as well as larger cases that feature wheels and additional handles.
Due to the protection they offer, Explorer cases are frequently customised with bespoke foam inserts. This allows for the safe handling and transportation of important tools, equipment and products.
Widely used in military, avionics, engineering and medical applications, they compete the waterproof case market with the likes of Pelican™ Storm Case™, SKB, Nanuk and Hardigg ranges.

Explorer Case Features
Designed for ease of use and enhanced longevity
Explorer cases can offer your business a number of advantages, helping you to both improve protection for your items, but productivity of you or your staff as well.
The below image showcases the key features of this case range, with additional detail on the specific points below.
Handles: The handles offer 2 main benefits. Firstly, due to the ergonomic design, they make the case comfortable and easy to handle. Secondly, they have been load tested to ensure their suitability for the intended applications, and have been reinforced with corrosion proof steel pins.
Stacking Locations: The moulded in stacking locations / patterns provide positive stacking ability. This means multiple cases can be transported and stored together much more safely.
Latches: The latches on the Explorer case range are particularly tough and durable. Manufactured from the same tough polypropylene as the case body, they offer both high resistance (keeping contents safe) and a positive lock, whilst remaining easy to use.
Pad lockable: There are numerous moulded locations around the case that allow for Explorer specific or third party padlocks to be used. This allows for any valuable contents to be secured, preventing theft / loss.
Metal Reinforced hinges: The hinges on the Explorer case range are very durable thanks to corrosion proof metal reinforcements. These also allow for a “lid stay” feature, whereby the lid of the case will remain open without additional supports. Removable lids are also available.
O Ring Seal: When combined with the catches, the O ring seal in the cases interior means that when the case is shut, it is completely dust and water proof. In fact, the cases are tested to IP67, meaning your contents remain dry and safe even if fully submerged.
Telescopic / retractable handles: Explorer cases that feature wheels also provide a telescopic handle, allowing the cases to be transported much more easily. Please note that these handles are only available on larger cases.
Wheels: Larger cases also feature wheels, allowing for the cases to be pulled along (particularly useful when transporting heavy items / loads). The wheels feature a bearing for smoother operation, and are also manufactured from a durable, long lasting material.
Pressure release valve: A manual pressure relief valve allows you equalise pressure between the inside and outside the case (useful for air travel or if the case is underwater for a prolonged period). This not only protects the contents, but also stops the cases from “popping” open in certain conditions. The internal stop ring also prevents the valve from becoming detached (and potentially lost)
Explorer Case Performance / Testing
Stringent performance appraisals to military standards
As well as the wide range of features, it is critical for any protective equipment case to offer exceptional levels of performance too.
Fortunately, Explorer cases do not disappoint.
Due to the properties of the Polypropylene copolymer used in the manufacture of the cases, they have high impact strength, low susceptibility to stress cracking / fractures, and are tougher and more durable at lower temperatures.
What this means in practice is that Explorer cases are virtually indestructible. Crush proof (you can run over them with a normal sized car with no issues), impact resistant and exceptionally strong.
In fact, all Explorer cases come with a manufacturers lifetime guarantee.
As mentioned above, the case material when coupled with the O ring seal also means the cases are completely water and dust tight.
With an IP Rating of 67, it means that cases can even be completely submerged without the contents getting wet. Both dust and moisture can prove fatal for sensitive equipment and electronics, making Explorer cases a perfect choice to protect specialist or expensive tools / kit.
Finally, the cases also have a surprisingly large operating temperature range. Whilst not as temperature resistant as aluminium cases, they can still withstand temperatures between -33°C to +90°C. This makes them ideal for hot and cold climates.
Stringent performance appraisals to military standards
Being virtually unbreakable, and coming with a lifetime guarantee (an indication of how confident Explorer are in their protective cases), the cases have also been extensively tested for use in military applications.
They also have NATO stock numbers allocated, making sourcing for military or similar applications where this is a requirement quick and efficient.
Please see below for a list of the accreditations / certification achieved by Explorer cases.
- IP67 rating (ingress protection rating against both water and dust)
- Defence Standard 81-41 (part 3) issue 4
- STANAG 4280 (edition 2)

Example Uses / industries for Explorer Cases
Whilst there is a huge range of uses for waterproof cases in general (and therefore Explorer cases), there are certain applications where the specific benefits of these cases are particularly suited.
For a brief overview on these, please see below.
Engineers / Maintenance
Perhaps the most common use for Explorer cases (and indeed their rivals in the waterproof case market) is as a durable equipment case.
If, for example, your business has service or field engineers taking expensive, delicate or specialist tools out onto site, these will need protecting. Not only to avoid the cost of replacing damaged items, but so that the engineer can also carry out their tasks with delays.
Customising Explorer cases with foam case inserts enhances this protection even further, whilst also allowing for improved efficiency (due to improved organisation and easier retrieval of tools / items).
Military equipment can range from specialist electronics to sensitive documents, firearms to medical kit, and everything in between. And in hostile environments, this equipment can literally be a matter of life and death.
As such, Explorer cases are widely used by European military forces. They are dust and watertight, protecting any items within. They are also lockable, keeping important, sensitive or dangerous items safe and secure. And they can be stacked, easily handled and easily identified – all important features for mission critical applications.
Security / Policing
Many of the features and benefits that make Explorer cases suitable for military applications also make them ideal for domestic police and security personnel.
As a result, Explorer cases are widely used by police and emergency services throughout the UK and Europe.
Another example similar to Military and Security applications is that of safely storing and transporting medical equipment.
Particularly suited to use by paramedics and emergency services, the cases ensure that important medical devices, equipment and even medicines are protected and can be secured from tampering. The fact that they are also easy to handle ensures that they are great choice for first responders as well.
Offshore / Aquatic
Being completely watertight means that Explorer cases are suitable for any application where important equipment needs to be kept dry or protected from the elements.
This includes industries such as offshore oil and gas, naval forces, expeditions, surveying and even scuba diving.
Another key point to mention here is that being completely watertight, the cases can also keep moisture in – making them ideal for transporting wet equipment / clothing etc. safely and conveniently in standard transport (i.e. they will prevent your your car / vehicle interior becoming wet).
Photography / Broadcast
Photography and broadcasting uses a lot of specialist equipment, and can often be conducted in remote locations. As a result, the protective performance of Explorer cases helps to protect any expensive kit.
However, Explorer cases can also help with organisation (particularly when using foam inserts), allowing film crews to capture spontaneous moments more easily.
Expedition / Remote Travel
Due to the large operating temperature of these moulded cases, they are ideal for expeditions to remote, hostile environments. Effectively, they will not melt in hot climates, and will not become brittle / crack at low temperatures.
Their range of features also helps with being transported over long distances. Being able to safely stack the cases, comfortably carry them and even enhance them with shoulder straps and back-packs, means they are easy and safe to handle.
