Extra tough, rotationally moulded cases
Certain applications will require high levels of protection. For example, the protection of expensive or delicate tools and equipment. Transporting highly calibrated parts or kit. And shipping valuable or mission critical items.
For all of these, the SKB R series case is a great choice.
These roto molded cases have been designed and manufactured to meet the exacting standards required for military use. The result is a protective case that is completely waterproof, air tight, impact resistant (thanks to the LLDPE Polyethylene material it is manufactured from), and is resistant to UV, solvents, corrosion, and even fungus.
As a result, SKB tactical cases meet or exceed MIL-STD 810 and MIL-C-4150J specifications.
But that’s not all. Solid stainless-steel latches and hinges add further strength and durability, and the majority of cases also include an integrated pull / tow handle and can be modified with a field installable castor kit (available separately).
Pressure relief / breather valves are another notable feature, alongside the removable lids that allow for easier access to the cases contents.
Custom R Series Cases
Whilst the SKB R series is a superb option if you require an extra tough and durable shipping case, many businesses and organisations will also use them as a waterproof equipment case too.
Whilst some models are available with cubed foam, layered foam and / or padded dividers, in this scenario the inclusion of custom foam inserts can provide significant benefits.
These inserts – manufactured from Plastazote – will improve the performance of any SKB industrial case. They provide additional cushioning protection for the case’s contents, and are tailored to the exact profile of the tools or kit to be stored within too.
They can also aid usability, with laser etched part numbers and instructions, as well as differing colour recesses within the foam quickly highlighting if a particular item is missing.
This makes SKB R Series cases a versatile choice for a huge range of applications.
SKB R Series FAQS
Common questions regarding SKB rotomolded cases
If you are looking for the toughest shipping cases / industrial cases, you should definitely be considering the SKB R series range. However, it is not uncommon to have a number of questions regarding this option.
The below covers perhaps the most commonly asked questions regarding these but, if you still cannot find the info you need, please get in touch.
What are SKB R Series cases made from?
The SKB R Series cases are manufactured using an impact resistant Polyethylene (LLDPE) that is unique to SKB products. This is also UV stabilised, as well as resistant to solvents, corrosion, and even fungus.
How are R Series cases manufactured?
R Series cases – like many manufactured by SKB – are created using rotational moulding. This sees material placed into a heated mould before being rotated, pushing the material onto the walls of the mould. This produces cases with extra thickness of material in the corners and edges, adding to their strength.
Have SKB R Series been tested?
SKB Cases have been extensively tested. This includes meeting or exceeding both MIL-STD 810 and MIL-C-4150J specifications. Whilst this makes them suitable for military use, it is also a strong indicator of their strength, durability and quality.
What size R Series cases are there?
There are just over 30 sizes in the 3R collection of cases (and a further 3 in the “2R” classification). The smallest is 486 x 486 x 375 mm and the largest is 1727 x 508 x 521 mm (internal dimensions).
What are MIL Standards?
SKB tactical cases – including the 3R – are tested to achieve United States defence standards, often called a military standard, “MIL-STD”, “MIL-SPEC”, or (informally) “MilSpecs”. They are used to help achieve standardization objectives by the U.S. Department of Defence.
Can these cases be locked?
It is possible to lock the SKB R Series cases, with the full range accepting 1SKB-PDL and 1SKB-PDL-C TSA combination locks.
Can I have an SKB case with wheels?
A number of SKB R series cases include wheels alongside a built-in pull handle. The cases can also be used with additional field installable castors which are sold separately (and also work with the integrated tow handle).
