Sourcing Durable Cases
Full details and info on WAG Heavy Cases
The ultra-tough waterproof equipment cases – manufactured by the likes of Peli™, Explorer and Nanuk – are the go-to option for heavy duty applications. But sometimes these are over specified (and overpriced) for their intended application.
This is where WAG Heavy cases come in, sitting in the middle of the lightweight plastic carry cases and the ultra-durable waterproof options.
This buying guide aims to provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision on whether the Heavy case range will be suitable for your business.

What are WAG Heavy cases?
Durable plastic equipment cases
Lots of plastic carry cases can be used for the safe storage and transport of equipment. In fact, everything from the lightweight carry case options from WAG, Hofbauer etc, all the way through to the ultra-tough Peli style cases.
The Heavy case range sits right in the middle of these options, being one of the heaviest duty plastic cases not classified as a fully “waterproof” (i.e. IP rated) option.
Heavy cases achieve this through a unique double wall “sandwich” construction that contains a honeycomb centre. This means that the cases are incredibly tough (particularly when compared to standard plastic carry cases) yet remain light and easy to handle too.

WAG, the German manufacturers of Heavy cases, didn’t stop there, however.
They have engineered a number of features into these cases that make them an ideal choice for use as equipment cases for service engineers.
Everything from the handles, catches, hinges and other features have been carefully thought out and designed, making a case that it is as equally usable as it is tough. It’s even possible to source Heavy cases with optional wheels / trolleys to aid movement of heavy kit and parts.
WAG Heavy Case Features
Key features of the WAG Heavy Cases
Besides how tough a protective case is, their success can often be measured by how usable the cases are. This is why the large case manufacturers now try to pack as much usability into their ranges as possible.
WAG Heavy cases are no different. Please see below for further details of the key features these cases offer.

A
Comfortable Handle: The rubberised, soft touch handle is not only long lasting, but also very comfortable when carrying the case. This is particularly useful when the cases contain heavy items (such as specialist tools, equipment etc.).
B
Stacking Feet: The integrated stacking features means that multiple Heavy cases can be used together. This is particularly useful if staff need to potentially take different kits or equipment out onto site (e.g. for servicing different equipment)
C
Smooth Surface: Although the main use of Heavy cases is for transporting kit and equipment, they still provide good branding potential. The smooth surfaces to the front / back of the case can be printed or even have graphics added during manufacture (in mould labelling)
D
Knee Lever Seals: The latches – also referred to as knee lever seals – are very secure yet incredibly user friendly. They also give a stylish appearance to the cases
E
Feet: The moulded feet are particularly large and robust, meaning Heavy cases are especially stable when stood upright
F
Case Construction: As well as the ribbed effect to the front walls of the cases, the double walled sandwich frame construction absorbs knocks, provides high stability, and gives the case and exceptional weight to strength ratio.

Applications
Example uses for Heavy cases
The unique niche in the case market that WAG Heavy cases occupy make them amongst best options available for a number of specific applications – something reinforced by their great range of features.
Please see below for further details of specific applications. However, if you cannot see your intended use here, a GWP case expert will be happy to advise on suitability.
Service Engineers
The application for which Heavy cases are most frequently used is for service engineers and employees that need to take tools and equipment onto site.
The robust nature of the cases make them a good, lower cost alternative to the more rugged Peli™ type cases (which would still be recommended if full water and dust resistance was required).
Their ease of use adds yet another reason why these cases are popular for this application, with foam inserts improving usability and organisation / efficiency yet further.

Travelling Salesmen
A lot of focus is placed on sales teams meeting B2B clients, attempting to sell products into large retailers or for use at their target customers.
However, less attention is given to the sales people who will visit consumers homes – for example to sell windows, appliances and other household items – who can benefit from the advantages of protective cases too.
Heavy cases are a good option for this for a number of reasons.
Firstly, they are durable for repeated uses. Secondly, they provide an attractive, professional appearance. Thirdly, they can be easily branded, and enhanced with foam inserts. And finally, they can be modified with wheels / trolleys to further aid handling.

Tool / Kit Hire
Similarly to use for service engineer cases, Heavy cases are a good option for tool hire applications.
Specialist equipment that may be rented to customers – and sent via couriers or other delivery networks – will need to be kept safe and secure.
The fact that Heavy cases can be locked, have foam inserts included to minimise potential damage and indicate if parts are missing using shadow foam), plus the range of branding options, make them an ideal case for this type of requirement.

Retail
Often, tools and equipment marketed to end consumers – think DIY equipment for example – is sold in a protective case. This allows the purchaser to keep their item safe for ongoing use / storage.
Heavy cases are a good option for this type of use, again allowing logos and instructions to be added directly to the cases, as well as moulded interiors or foam too.
Sales Meetings
Although a lot of sales meetings will be for consumer items, other industries will require similar sample cases too.
For example, industrial manufacturers showcasing specialist parts, components or tools to potential customers may require a more robust option than those provided by traditional sample cases. Again, Heavy cases are a great choice here.
