Custom Packaging Design & Manufacture
Bespoke corrugated boxes and custom packaging options, including logos, printing, sizes and more
Custom packaging can provide a number of significant benefits for your business.
This can include improved product protection, minimised postage / transit costs (with custom sized boxes reducing shipping volume), and of course logos or full colour graphics allowing for eye catching, aesthetically pleasing packs that consumers will recognise and remember.
By working with GWP Packaging, you can design, create, and manufacture custom cardboard boxes and packaging that are tailored to the exact requirements of your business.
Custom Printed Boxes
Everything from custom boxes with logo, to fully printed retail packs
One of the most obvious ways to customise your business’ packaging is through the use of print and branding. Please see below for a number of the options available to you when sourcing custom printed boxes.
Custom Shipping Boxes
Custom size boxes to offer improved protection and minimise shipping costs
As well as your retail and consumer facing packs, custom transit packaging / shipping boxes can also provide a significant advantage (with bespoke sizes improving protection, reducing shipping costs etc.). Please see your options below.
Custom Ecommerce Packaging
Surprise and delight your customers with a bespoke unboxing experience
With a large percentage of sales shifting online, your packaging can often be the first physical interaction your customer has with your business. Using custom ecommerce boxes to create a memorable unboxing experience can help drive further sales and brand loyalty.
Custom Postal Boxes
The best custom boxes for reducing postage costs and transit damage
Whilst many believe that postal boxes must adhere to strict royal mail guidelines (known as PIP – or pricing in proportion) using custom postal boxes can often be a much more cost-effective option overall.

Advantages of using custom cardboard packaging at your business
When most people think of custom packaging, they tend to focus on the print options available. However, custom packaging will also frequently involve manufacturing your boxes to bespoke sizes.
This can provide a number of benefits.
Firstly, custom size boxes can be tailored to the optimum size for your products. This typically allows for much better protection, as custom packaging can help to eliminate movement of products within the outer pack.
Secondly, bespoke corrugated boxes can also reduce shipping costs – as you are no longer paying to transport empty space within the packaging. This also means that more can be sent in a single shipment. This is why both custom postal boxes and transit packaging are fast growing in popularity.
Thirdly – and similarly to the above – custom corrugated packaging can help to reduce the amount of secondary packaging you use. This is particularly true of void fill such as packaging peanuts or expanding foam inserts. This not only reduces overall costs, but also speeds up packing times too.
And finally, custom packaging can also make a significant, positive impact on your environmental footprint. More efficient shipping means less vehicles / emissions to transport your products, whilst custom packaging also uses less material too.
Print options for your custom cardboard boxes
Of course, the size (and design) of your custom cardboard boxes can be used in tandem with a huge range of printing options.
At one end of the scale you can specify simple custom boxes with logos – which are perfect for transit packaging, B2B or non-retail applications.
At the other extreme, full colour, high quality graphics and photographic imagery can be used to make a significant difference to your sales and brand awareness in retail environments (including use on product packaging, shelf ready packs, and even POS).
Somewhere in the middle – but no less important – is the use of print on your ecommerce packaging. Often plain or with very limited print on the outside, ecommerce boxes are increasingly boasting vibrant print on the inside as part of an “unboxing” experience.
All of this can be achieved through a range of printing methods (including flexographic, digital, litho laminated etc.)

Common questions regarding custom packaging
The below section covers a number of the most commonly asked questions on the topic of custom packaging (and corrugated boxes in particular).

Why should I use custom packaging?
Using custom packaging at your business can provide a huge range of benefits. Printing can obviously help brand awareness and drive sales, but use of custom sizes / designs can also minimise transit costs, reduce your environmental impact (through efficient shipping and less material usage), increase protection for your products and even reduce requirements for secondary packaging (such as void fill).
Is custom packaging more expensive than stock boxes?
Whilst the initial cost of custom packaging may be higher than off the shelf options (due to design, tooling charges etc.), custom packaging will nearly always save you money in the mid to long term. This is because it uses less material, will reduce shipping costs (more items can be shipped in one go as you are not paying to transport empty space), minimise damage and returns, and can aid repeat business too.
What print can I add to my custom cardboard packaging?
Custom printed boxes with logos (or indeed full colour graphics) can be a great way to drive brand awareness. Everything from single colour print through to high end retail quality imagery can be reproduced using a number of methods (including digital, litho, and flexo printing).
Can I use custom packaging for small business?
Whilst many believe it is not cost effective to use custom packaging for small businesses, doing so can actually reduce costs over the longer term. Coupled with stock holding and other services such as rationalisation (i.e. consolidating numerous different boxes into a more compact, streamlined inventory) can also overcome any difficulties with space and economies of scale too.
Will custom postal boxes reduce my costs?
Postal packaging manufactured to Royal Mail guidelines (PIP boxes) will often still involve shipping empty space in many circumstances. Eliminating this by using custom sized packs – which still fall within the sizes set out – can make a significant difference to a business’ costs.
Can custom size boxes really be made to any size?
The corrugated packaging that your business uses can be manufactured to almost any size and shape (if you are working with a packaging manufacturer of course). Whilst this is particularly useful for businesses with unusually shaped products, tailoring the size will vastly reduce shipping costs whilst improving protection during transit too.
Are there other types of custom packaging besides cardboard?
Besides custom cardboard boxes, you can also source a wide range of alternative bespoke packaging. This includes foam inserts and end caps, Correx® plastic boxes and containers, and even specialist options such as flight cases and anti-static packaging.
How is custom packaging manufactured?
Custom packaging can be manufactured in a number of ways, including die cutting (flat bed and rotary), multi point gluing, case making, and even hand finishing and assembly.
How can I design custom packaging for my business?
Whilst you can design your own custom packaging, working alongside an experienced manufacturer is usually the most sensible option. Established packaging suppliers – such as GWP – will have an in-house design department that can guide you through every step of the process (ensuring your custom boxes offer performance and appearance that exceeds your expectations).
