28 Nov GWP Participate in Movember
GWP team participate in annual charity event
Staff members at GWP; Barry Cuss, Tom Wilkie and Mark Clements have made a Fan “tache” tic effort to grow moustaches and support Movember this month to help raise awareness and funds for serious men’s health issues.
What is Movember?
The Movember foundation was originally set up in Australia in 2003 in which this global organisation has been dedicated to changing men’s health and improving the lives of men who are affected by testicular cancer, prostate cancer and mental health issues.
The inspirational Movember community have raised awareness for health issues in males by funding over 800 programmes in 21 countries alongside raising an astonishing £346 million to date!
The famous Movember foundation challenges men all around the world to hold back on shaving and grow their Moustaches in the November month! Such involvement has resulted in an outstanding ‘4 million mustaches’ to date whereby men sign up with a clean- shaven face and for 30 days they commit to growing a must-have “tache”. These generous and spirited men are known as Mo Bros who are also supported by Mo Sistas (their wives, girlfriends or partners) creating a ‘Mo Community’ which is also constantly growing every year!
Turning ‘mo’ into dough
Growing a moustache can do three things: raise awareness, raise moustaches and funds! Individuals participating in ‘Movember’ upload progressive photos of their moustaches onto social media sights to raise awareness for the “M-antastic” cause. Mo Bros then begin collecting donations from friends, families and work colleagues to raise funds to support the Movember charity who aim to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments. In 2013, the Movember charity raised an enormous £20.4 million to go towards supporting males affected by testicular cancer, prostate cancer and mental health issues.
Even the ‘Mo-sistas’ at GWP wanted to get involved to raise awareness for Movember. Thank you to Becky Sprawson for supplying the “Taches” to those that were unable to grow their own this month… also looking Fan “tache” tic ladies!
GWP’s Participation in ‘Movember’ & other charitable events
Staff members at GWP take pride in supporting and contributing to various annual charitable events. In October 2014, the staff at GWP supported the ‘Wear it Pink’ annual Breast Cancer Campaign to raise awareness for this inspirational charity and raised £64 to assist in supporting the charities goal to beat the disease by funding ground breaking research. The annual ‘Wear it Pink’ event saw staff wearing pink outfits (with the exception of the Robin) as well as pink cakes and sweets.
