David Pedley’s Cycling Challenge!

David Pedley’s Cycling Challenge!

Chief Executive of GWP Group, David Pedley is gearing up for the challenge of a lifetime

In a challenge to raise money for Help for Heroes David Pedley Together with friends Paul Maguire and Mick Drake – both ex-soldiers will cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats. Having mapped a longer than usual route between the two infamous points, the trio are aiming to complete 971 miles in just 13 days.

Help for heroes Cycle Challenge

The journey will see them start at Lands End on 9 June and cover between 70 to 80 miles per day, through many picture-perfect and recognizable locations including Dartmoor, weaving across the Welsh border and past Loch Lomond and Fort William to John O’Groats – of course with a stop-off at home in Upper Minety for a night.

This cycle ride is definitely a challenge and now that I’m fully into my training I understand just how much of an undertaking it is. However I am enjoying it and it is very rewarding to be able to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

The team, together with their support driver who will accompany them the whole way, will also be forgoing most creature comforts on the trip and spending the nights camping en route.

I’m averaging about 50 miles a week now on training, so I’ve still got a way to go to be able to hit the 80 miles a day we’ll be doing. All the team at GWP have been incredibly supportive – as well as our suppliers and customers, who are all helping us to reach our fundraising target of £3000.
Both Paul and Mick are ex-soldiers so we see the great work that Help for Heroes does to support our injured soldiers – and to be able to do this at the same time as challenging myself and keeping fit is a bonus.
